UNIVERSAL LOVE

Leaving her corporate life in Rio de Janeiro, Clarissa Paz found her life’s mission as a volunteer at the Dzaleka Refugee Camp in Malawi. Aiming to address issues of marginalization, Clarissa co-founded the Ubuntu Nation Project, providing thousands of refugees education, healthcare, employment, and housing.

But when she hears that young orphans live alone in the camp, Clarissa and her husband petition the Malawian government to adopt 13 children. Faced with legal adoption obstacles, Clarissa refuses to give up and takes matters into her own hands by circumventing systemic restrictions to help kids in need. Clarissa must now balance service work, legal risks, and mothering her growing family.

FINDING UBUNTU

Maick Mutej is a refugee who lost his family and home fleeing violence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.  When he arrives at the Dzaleka Refugee Camp in Malawi, he experiences the suffering refugees have long endured at the camp facing food insecurity and lack of jobs, schools and basic necessities. Through his tragedy, he finds his calling to help marginalized refugees and co-founded Ubuntu Nation, a project providing education, healthcare, housing and nutrition to marginalized communities. The project is inspired by the Ubuntu philosophy, “I am because we are,” which embraces our shared humanity.

A DIVINE JOURNEY

Living at a refugee camp in Malawi her entire life, a determined young woman aims to address the mental health and human rights issues plaguing her community. Despite facing poverty and despair, Divine Mugisha sets out to leave the camp for the first time to study psychology; but will her dream become her reality? A Divine Journey follows Divine across ten transformative years, creating an in-depth exploration of how unsung heroes come to be.

Unmasked is a collection in distribution (A Divine Journey, Finding Ubuntu, Fear Not) and development following the lives and missions of three unsung heroes across Africa doing impactful work to solve the same issues they once overcame, such as poverty, hunger, and barriers to healthcare and education. The collection demonstrates our shared humanity through the lens of compassionate advocates who live by the Ubuntu philosophy, “I am because we are.” These powerful stories of resilience and sacrifice show how one person’s activism can change the world for many. Unmasked inspires viewers to make a difference in their own communities through uplifting stories about humanity, advocacy and leadership in the face of adversity.
